Today marks the 11th anniversary of Urban Indy. I apologize for my lack of recent posts, but I’m still around. There is a lot to talk about, but the one project that got the most votes on my twitter poll was the Hanna International Lofts in Lafayette Square. This part of town has long interested me, as it could have faltered heavily through a lack of investment. The built environment is pure 1960’s-1990’s sprawl. Lafayette Square has long piqued my interest for its variety of international restaurants. However, it is not the most visually attractive of landscapes, and is dominated by single-use commercial buildings and parking lots. There is an interesting rezoning request that aims to alter the dynamic, a few parcels at a time. The case starts on page 12 of the linked document.

Jane’s Walk 2014: Lafayette Square

On Saturday, I joined several others who were taken on an exploratory walk around Lafayette Square and Eagledale Neighborhood. Â The path we took was clockwise as follows:
Like last year’s walk around Garfield Park, this neighborhood is full of challenges and opportunities. Unlike Garfield Park, Lafayette Square and Eagledale are suburban in form, although it still held several surprises.
First, we had to say goodbye to Big Car’s original Service Center. Â They’ve been asked to leave their space by the end of the month, which will once again be used to service vehicles....
