Georgia Street Programming
The Georgia Street transformation has been completed for a few years now, so it’s a good time to look at how the public space is faring.  This was an exciting project when it was first announced, but there was a major issue with its sustained success: most of the buildings that faced it had never really taken advantage of foot traffic.  I’m not sure if that aspect has changed that much in the past 2 years.  However, with the Indy Star taking over the top 2 floors of the former Nordstrom Space, there is hope that they will be able to open up the building a bit. The good news is that the...

Time to Remove the Georgia Street Skywalk

Time to Remove the Georgia Street Skywalk
The Georgia Street project is showing its potential to be a great public space.  In fact, it could be the definition of outdoor living room, as termed by the Project for Public Spaces.  One aspect that now stands out like a sore thumb is the pedestrian bridge that connects the Circle Center Parking garage to the Omni Severin Hotel.   I can’t imagine that the bridge gets much foot traffic as it stands.  And now that we have this great public space, shouldn’t we be inviting the Omni guests to get in on the party? Georgia Street Update 5

Georgia Street Update 5
Here is the latest news from the Georgia Street project. I stopped after classes last night for just a moment to snap a couple of pictures. While nothing is official about it, the fact...

Georgia Street Update 4
This past Friday I had the pleasure of wandering downtown with fellow Urban Indy blogger Graeme Sharpe. We visited the Cultural Trail central corridor construction sites as well as the Georgia Street site. Here are the latest photographs as of 8/5/2011. Really coming along well. The “goal posts” are now up! Finally beginning to look like something.   Georgia Street Update 1 Georgia Street Update 2 Georgia Street Update...

Georgia Street Update 3

Georgia Street Update 3
As promised, when significant visual changes occur, I will be here to post some new photographs showing the changes. I stopped by on 4/26/2011 and snapped a few photos in the late afternoon of the latest progress. I do not know what all of this structure functions as, but it looks a bit like railroad ties to me at this point in time. Wishful thinking I suppose.
