Much of the major construction on the Red Line project is now wrapping up. I was able to take a few photos of the 52nd and College station last night, as well as the new pole and “No Left Turn” sign at 51st and College:

All Corridors

New traffic signals have been installed at multiple locations along the corridor and will become operational over the next few weeks.
College Avenue, Meridian Street, and Capitol Avenue have especially new configurations. If you live or work on those streets, be sure to watch the videos that pertain to you. Â
College Avenue
- Pavement markings are being installed on College Ave from 66th to 38th Streets. Work will occur mostly during the evening and overnight hours, from 7PM to 7AM. Please be alert for lane and parking restrictions and temporary traffic control measures. On-street parking will be restricted while parking spaces are being marked.
Median will be installed on College Avenue starting this week. Please be alert for lane and parking restrictions and temporary traffic control measures. The installed curb will restrict left turns at all non-signalized intersections.
Traffic signal loops will be installed at signalized intersections this week. Please be alert for temporary traffic restrictions and traffic control measures around work areas.
Washington, Delaware, and 18th StreetsÂ
- Pavement markings are being installed on Washington, Delaware and 18th Streets this week. Work will occur mostly during the evening and overnight hours (7 PM – 7 AM). Please be alert for on-street parking and lane restrictions. Segments of work are:

- Washington Street from Delaware Street to Capitol Avenue
- Delaware Street from Maryland Street to Washington Street
- 18th Street from Capitol Avenue to Meridian Street
Capitol Avenue
- Pavement markings are being installed on Capitol Avenue between 18th and Washington Streets. Work will occur mostly during the evening and overnight hours (7 PM – 7 AM). Please be alert for on-street parking and lane restrictions.
Meridian Street
- Pavement resurfacing is occurring on Meridian Street. Temporary on-street parking and traffic restrictions will be required in work areas over the next several weeks. Drivers should expect to encounter temporary traffic controls and/or lane closures. At times, drivers may be diverted off Meridian Street.Â
- Final concrete surfaces will be placed at the Meridian Street station platforms over the next two weeks, requiring short term lane closures on Meridian Street. Work is scheduled at the 34th and 38th Street stations this week.
Virginia Avenue
- Short-term lane closures will be necessary adjacent to each Virginia Avenue station area this week. Work will occur on or after Monday, July 15.

I read in the Star that the first month of operation will be free for all riders. This seems like a fantastic way to encourage people to give the red line a try, and I can imagine that ridership will be high during that time period. Hopefully this will encourage choice riders to stick with the service even when it reverts to the paid fare system. It is my understanding that the regular bus routes will also be free to ride as those services and routes are expanded.
Personally, the Red Line route could not be any better. My commute is from Bripp to IUPUI, so I’m looking to take advantage of saving money on parking passes and also to get my SOV off the road. With only a couple of weeks left in construction I can’t wait to see the changes this will bring to the city.
It sounds like the entire system will be free in September. I initially thought it was just the Red Line:

IMO the cement work at several of the stations is shoddy. They’ll be out to repair that work within a year.

Where at? Wilhelm is maybe the best self perform concrete GC in the city. It is their bread & butter.
Center station at 18th and Capitol.
Curbside station on Virginia (midpoint station between downtown and FS).
Curbside at Troy and Shelby.
Curbside at Southern and Shelby.
There were a few more, but these looked particularly poor.
Forward your comments to IndyGo. It may not change anything, but it is better to bring your concerns up with the agency overseeing the project than to just post about it here only.

All the new pavement lines look nice. Who will be maintaining those. Hopefully it’s not the mayor’s DPW.
Just returned from Seattle, they have several BRT lines in the area.
