Once one of the most interesting redevelopment dilemmas in the city, Bush Stadium has been successfully saved and converted into apartments. Â This old home of the Indianapolis Indians was counted as down and almost out, but it is breathing with new life. Â Last week I had a chance to snap some photos of the southwest section, which can be seen here:
The renovation and stadium apartments look solid, and the building should continue to serve the near westside for many generations to come. Unfortunately, the stadium is surrounded by apartments that look to be more at home out past I-465. Â My one photo of the construction on those buildings did not turn out due to sun glare. Â The best I can do for now is the rendering on the bottom of this webpage. Â I am sure that building upon a vast parking lot and making it look like it fits into an urban setting is a challenge, but I feel it could have been handled better than it was.
All in all, though, it is still encouraging to see Bush Stadium as a saved landmark. Â It really was almost hopeless for more than a decade. Â The fact that it still stands with a new use could be a great template for other long-abandoned landmarks that exist around town.

The interior building and open space design really wasn’t thought out, people are not going to want to use that space to play ball. Could’ve been better.
I have lived here for 9 months now and they are truly beautiful. I’m excited to see the neighborhood grow. Be glad the city did not have to tear down landmark down.
