NYC: Bike Share and High Line

Last week, I was able to take a short trip to New York City with my wife. While she was busy with her work training sessions in the day, I made a point to geek out on their new Bike Share system, as well as the High Line elevated park.

Here’s a look at the first docking station that I used on the southern tip of Manhattan. The process was slightly time-consuming, but generally straight forward and problem free:

I then headed to Shake Shack, a legendary burger shop that has been expanding in the city. Docking the bike nearby proved to be slightly difficult, and I had to have someone explain that I basically needed to ram the bike into the corral.

After the delicious and less-than-nutritious lunch, I secured another bike and rode up the West Side Waterfront Greenway to the southern edge of the High Line at Gansevoort Street. The rest of the photos are taken from the top of the High Line, which is a former elevated railroad that has been converted to a public park:

Thanks to New York for a fun and inspiring trip, and I hope to return again in a few years.

  • Nice shots, Kevin. Unfortunately, the bike share was not ready when I visited last, but the High Line was awesome and I walked it at least twice. The diversity of architecture is amazing and the interaction with some buildings, going through them, under them, up next to them, it makes for a great experience.
