8/19 Links

Apologies for the recent dearth of posts here on Urban Indy.  I know I personally needed a mental break from the blog world, plus I’ve been busy with trying to sell a house, but I hope to get back in to the swing of things this week.  Here is a list of some recent links that I have found interesting.  I don’t plan on making this type of post a habit, but it works for now.

  • IndyDPW has started a weekly podcast, this one is an interview with department head Lori Miser.
  • Indianapolis Greenways has scheduled public meetings this week to discuss their master plan.
  • More info on IndyGo’s real time bus tracking rollout from the Indy Star.
  • Something to keep in mind for next month: Open Streets Indy is a large event which will shut down auto traffic along Westfield Boulevard from Broadway to 53rd Streets on September 29th.

The DPW podcast is surprisingly good quality! Plenty of garbage podcasts out there sound like they were recorded on a cassette deck in mom’s basement, but this is definitely not one of them.
I was encouraged to hear the director of DPW speaking so forcefully about her desire to develop transit options and integrate them into bike/ped infrastructure. And here I was expecting them to talk about cars and more cars…

Just a heads up, Lori Miser is a planner, not an engineer, so I think she gets it on these issues. Unfortunately, she works in a city where most citizens, for the most part, do not get it.

In any case, I think DPW could still do better.
