Update: Indy’s First Bike Boxes

The following photos were received from DPW this morning. These were taken at 71st & Cross Key but the idea is the same for all 3 boxes on the north side bike route.

We previously reported on these and how they were not painted. The unpainted box is shown below from our original report.

According to Jamison Hutchins at DPW, the intent was to have them striped green from the beginning, the material simply was not available when the outlines were painted. Glad to see that they have been painted. Happy riding!

  • Great to see that they’re painted, but the choice of location is still odd. I think these would be better off for a denser area closer to downtown where there would be an influx of bikes during rush hours.

  • Green tarmac or whatever is unnecessary and expensive, it cuts down on striping you could do elsewhere. All you need is a hatched box.
