As promised last week, here are some photos from south of 30th street showing the progress near College Ave and Central Avenue.

Concrete plazas have been installed at the crossings of College and Central and significant sub-base work has occurred through the existing park areas adjacent to these streets.

For the next update, I will attempt to get some photos of the new retaining wall being constructed along Fall Creek in the area where the space between the current parkway and the creek is narrow. That is perhaps one of the most interesting, and difficult to photograph, area of work is underway.

  • Is this is going to be crushed stone as a base vs. being fully paved? That’s what it seems to look like in the photos. Thanks.

    • I HIGHLY doubt that. Keep in mind they are still in the early stages of putting this together. It is common to put this sort of crushed stone down prior to the pavement.

Just based on how the rest of the trail looks, it doesn’t make sense for them to make this portion stone.

      • Thanks, Curt. From the pictures, I couldn’t tell if it was a paver base or the actual final pavement they were laying down.

With a road bike, I tend to be weary of crushed stone paths, so hopefully this will come to be a fully paved gem!

      • Plans I’ve seen call for paved. It will probably be a bit like the Monon, with a narrow crushed-stone shoulder on the side (for old guys like me to run on without tearing up our knees).

  • cannot wait to ride this!!

  • I’m glad to see it is getting done.

  • The White Trail south of the Zoo \ old Washington St. is also coming along; you can ride on the crushed stone now for some distance.
