Try not to bounce in your chairs too much: a writer at Urban Indy has finally decided to assess the CVS at 16th and Meridian, a few years after it opened. The general view around these parts–which probably prompted the majority of us not to feature it–was a resounding “meh” at the results, even though it obviously tries to improve on urban design principles from other drug stores in the area. When juxtaposed with the Walgreens at the adjacent corner, the differences are obvious.

The 2013 construction season is well underway and I have recently reported on two exciting cycling projects that are underway which will significantly increase the amount of nice cycling facilities with the Fall Creek Trail Extension and the Illinois Street Buffered Bike Lane.
They are however, not the only interesting projects going on around town which will increase the amount of safe bikeways for Indianapolis residents. The Board of Public Works recently awarded a contract for Phase 2 of the 71st street Bike Lane Project. Phase 2 is comprised of the W 71st St Bikeway and the N College Avenue...

As promised last week, here are some photos from south of 30th street showing the progress near College Ave and Central Avenue.
Concrete plazas have been installed at the crossings of College and Central and significant sub-base work has occurred through the existing park areas adjacent to these streets.
For the next update, I will attempt to get some photos of the new retaining wall being constructed along Fall Creek in the area where the space between the current parkway and the creek is narrow. That is perhaps one of the most interesting, and difficult to photograph, area of work is...

Recently, a massive pile of praise was heaped upon Indianapolis civic leadership with the opening of the Cultural Trail and the soon to come B-Cycle Bike Share. National critics weighed in from many corners finally giving credit where it is due to Indianapolis and the progressive cycling infrastructure finally being implemented here.
Fresh off of that, I am pleased to write about another positive cycling infrastructure investment that will soon make cycling on one of Indy’s busiest thoroughfares a little bit safer and perhaps, entice people to use the facilities a little bit more.
