Last Saturday, I finally had the opportunity to head over to Irvington to view their downtown area now that the major construction on the streetscape project has been completed. Â The long-planned project has widened the sidewalks, added medians, and bricked up the main intersections for better pedestrian visibility.
Sadly, the project isn’t a 100 percent aesthetic slam-dunk.  The utility poles still line the street (fortunately they are not embedded in the sidewalk), and they use Indy’s standard bland street lights.  Still, the street is much better than it was before,...

Earlier this month, earth began moving on the property of the Barton Tower for what will be be construction of Phase 1 of the infill project surrounding the base of the 21 story monolithic tower that now stands there.
Phase 1 of this project will include 61 affordable rate units financed by the sale of state housing credits. The design of this portion seems to be locked in using existing surface parking spaces on the site which will be covered by the new building which will rise primarily along East St, with short stretches along Michigan and Mass ave. It has been a while since I have attended a neighborhood discussion meeting, so I was excited to see the upcoming meeting to discuss the future development of the Monon Corridor. Â Here is info from the flyer for the meeting:
With the ambitious Bent Rail Brewery planned next door to the meeting site, this is a great time to discuss the future of the corridor.
