I had a few minutes after class and snapped a few photos of the construction, now underway, on the last portion of the Cultural Trail downtown.

The pavement has been torn up from Capitol Ave all the way to Senate and the parking looks like it will be gone once the trail is operating.

One cool structure I observed, was the bus shelter being constructed at Illinois and Washington. These are some really nice looking pieces and personally, I hope their design influences future IndyGo sheltered transit stops.

  • Thanks For Update Curt ! I am excited ! Connecting White River State Park to Washington Street will be wonderful and will bring nice closure to trail. Well Done Indy !

  • Based upon a couple of visits to downtown, it looked to me like the Conrad is “abusing” the trail (i.e. using it for valet parking.) Is anyone keeping an eye on this?

    • You have no idea the amount of eyes dedicated to this. For now, it appears corporate interest has trumped the liveability of an entire city much to the disdain of readers on this blog and several other discussion forums. I say keep the pressure up towards your representatives and anyone connected with the disgrace you have mentioned.

    • As Joe points out, not much has been done because the Conrad has weight to throw around.

On another note, Curt, this is the last part of the Cultural Trail? Is there more in the planning phase? Is it all ever going to be connected?

For example, I know there’s a bit down by IUPUI that seems basically isolated from everything else. Is it ever going to expand so everything is connected and actually becomes one continuous trail?

  • So how is the progression on this one Curt?
