Buses-N-Beers

On Saturday, January 21st, join Urban Indy bloggers Saturday Graeme Sharpe, Joe Smoker, and I for a one-of-a-kind excursion to promote Mass Transit and responsible beer tasting (ok, so there will be some beer drinking, not just tasting) in advance of the upcoming Super Bowl.

IndyGo is FREE during Super Bowl weekend, so this is intended to be a bit of a guide for guests, as well as a promotion of local businesses in some of our favorite Indianapolis neighborhoods.  And as far as this Saturday is concerned, Graeme has a few free bus passes for the first few people to show up at Twenty Tap.

Here is our very simple schedule:

  • Around 4 PM, meet at Twenty Tap at 54th and College.
  • Wait outside for the IndyGo Bus 17 at either 5:10 or 5:40.
  • Head to the Mass Avenue district for an as-yet-to-be-determined stop.
  • Walk to the corner of New Jersey and Washington to catch the IndyGo Bus 14 at 7:40.
  • Head to the Fountain Square Brewery’s Grand Opening Party.
  • After that, people are on their own.  I’m going to take a taxi home, and I recommend others do the same.

Be warned, as we will be making a follow-up post with photographs.  This is going to be the event of the century. *
*event of the century not guaranteed.

  • “I’m going to take a taxi home, and I recommend others do the same.” Given that this is to promote buses, that’s pretty darn funny!

By the way, Kevin – you didn’t share the date of this event of the century!

    • Thanks! I can’t believe I left out that detail.

And, yes, the part about the taxi is kind of sad. But that is what we get when our bus service shuts down so early. I could theoretically walk from Fountain Square to take the 17 home at 9:30 pm. The 14 bus does not go downtown after 8:30 pm on Saturday.

  • The event sounds great, but…………….

You have just highlighted the problem with IndyGo and possibly a problem with Superbowl planning.

They don’t take you to the places you want to go, on a consistent schedule that makes any sense for people wanting to work or play in Indianapolis.

That’s why I support light rail to the largest fixed location structures in Indy, (Simple X that connects: Downtown Multi-Modal Hub, Airport, Convention Center/Hotels, Stadiums, & Shopping Malls)

  • World Class Beer is sponsering free shuttle buses that will circulate taking local consumers from the exclusive downtown access area to The Super Celebration Sites of Mass Ave & Fountain Square during the days leading up to Super Bowl XLVI!

5 shuttles running from 11am til 2am on Thursday, Friday & Saturday. 3 shuttles run from 11am until 2am, with 2 more added, for a total of 5, during the core time of 2pm until 11pm. The buses will originate at the Super Bowl transportation staging area near the Indiana Government Center on Washington Street. They will then take approximately 25 passengers per bus to Fountain Square, then up College Avenue to Mass Ave before heading back to the Indiana Government Center. Along this route, chosen by the Super Bowl Host Committee, the buses will drop passengers at a number of stops nearest the largest concentrations of bars restaurants and retail stores.
