People for Urban Progress’ Latest Idea: Bush Stadium Seat Reuse

People for Urban Progress presented their latest idea for massive reuse at the Think Farm event on November 11th.  They are in the process of refurbishing the stadium seats in vacant Bush Stadium and locating them at bus stops around the city.

I love the idea of taking something that has exhausted its use, and giving it to a cash-strapped organization that has an obvious need.   Smart and resourceful organizations such as PUP have the capacity inspire further innovation.  They are an integral part of a movement to make Indianapolis a better place to live.

  • What a great idea! In these budget conscious times, we need to be really thinking about how we can best use (or reuse) our limited resources.

  • This is obviously a “home run”. It may be cool to hook up some local Indy Parks baseball fields with some seats as well……give them an old time feel and a place to sit for a game.

  • Wow, this is a wonderful idea. Not only does it reuse a product that would most likely be thrown away, it will become a unique piece of street furniture that also reflects back on Indianapolis’ title of Amateur Sports Capital of the World.

  • Love, love, love this reuse project. So many of our bus stops are just signs with no seating. The addition of seats will makes the bus stop more attractive and comfortable for riders. Great work PUP!

  • What would be nice to go with it, would be more usage of the Dome material to provide a shelter over the seats. Would look really nice and be more re-use.

This will be a tremendous project on its own though!

  • Way to go PUP! Fantastic idea. I hope beauracracy doesn’t slow this idea down. I agree that the use of the Dome roof material even makes the idea better.

  • College Avenue Should be lined with these ! This group continues to amaze me. Somehow they can push the Sports Brand of Indy farther than the city ever has. There’s so much integrity to these creative reuses, maybe the policy pushers downtown could learn a few things.

  • This is the kind of thing that makes Indianapolis a destination for me.

  • Wow, thanks for all of the positive feedback. If you would like to find out more about this project, and the future uses, go to our website, http://www.ecolaborative.com

Our hope for the future is to put these seats in as many locations around the city and state as possible. We’ve been discussing with PUP about the idea to use the roof material in shade structures above the stadium seats.

The possibilities to give Indy a great place to sit are endless. Our imagination has just begun with this project.
