Step 1 to Create a Pedestrian Friendly City

Step 1 to Create a Pedestrian Friendly City
A lot Urban Indy’s content focuses on decisions made by “the man”. You know, the guy/gal/power structure that messes up a lot, doesn’t always get the value of making Indianapolis a live-able city, and can’t seem to listen to our urbanophilic reason? Well, there are also a lot of things, simple things, that you can do to make central Indiana a better place to live and move around in. If you want people to be able to get around the city with ease, I have one recommendation for you today: Shovel Your Sidewalk! If you are reading this and you do not have a sidewalk, I am sorry...

It was right after the new year that Kevin Kastner sent an email that read: IUPUI real time bus locator: http://www.shepherdis.com/iupui/ I click on the link and find this: I replied back suggesting the following simple Urban Indy post: Why the f*** doesn’t IndyGo have this? I’m not trying to be crude, but of all the things that have been discussed, to me a bus locator for web and mobile applications would be the best added value for the dollar. Rail corridors, while important, can only cover so many people. Buses are still needed. Additional bus lines, which are still greatly needed, are...

Indyconnect – An outside opinion

Indyconnect – An outside opinion
This morning I woke up, and there was a wonderful link sitting in my email inbox. It was a link to the Overhead Wire, and an outside analysis by them of the Indyconnect plan. The Overhead Wire specifically took on the NE Corridor and compared it to the Capital Metrorail in Austin, TX. In their post, they compared how the Austin line skirts the downtown area. Since Austin’s commuter line opening earlier this year, it has been the target of repeated criticism about how poor a design it is and that it is a major display of political letdown. Sound familiar? If you live in Indianapolis,...
