The things you find when you are on a coffee break. I happened to have my camera on me yesterday, when I saw this rendering of the downtown Kahn’s, which is in a building currently undergoing renovation in the former home of John’s Fine Wines:
The stretch of historic low-rise buildings along this stretch of Pennsylvania Street have long been undervalued, and I’m glad to see Kahn’s bringing this classic 4 story Art Deco back to life.
(Gratuitous plug: the coffee at nearby Henry’s is among the best in town. Go there if you want some real...

Recently, the Indianapolis MPO released a report (click to open 33 page .pdf) created to examine the spaghetti bowl of freight train traffic that comes and goes in the Indianapolis region. While this wasn’t a point of major debate through out the Indyconnect meeting periods, it bares a lot of responsibility when it comes to firming up the underbelly of passenger rail connections in the Indyconnect plan. A recent study by Bundle & The Street, lends some credibility to the notion that purchasing a home in the suburbs based upon the premise that it’s “cheaper” may not really be that true at all. The study focused on a number of major and minor metro regions across the nation and pitted their daily commute times, distances and also added the metric averaging what a household might spend on transportation per month. The numbers paint a striking picture. A couple of infographics were released with the report that displayed some of the maximum and minimum commutes. You can peruse...

By now, if you follow such things, you should have heard that a late hour deal has been struck to save the commuter bus service formerly known as the IndyGO I.C.E. Commuter Bus. The deal, will preserve service for the Fishers & Carmel service which transports commuters multiple times in the mornings and evenings from a single stop in Carmel and a single stop in Fishers. Overseeing the service, will no longer be left up to IndyGO, but Miller Trailways. This isn’t a parting of ways between CIRTA & IndyGO; this represents simply preserving the service by whatever means...
