  • Nice shots. St. Joan of Arc is an absolute treasure, one of the most beautiful churches in Indianapolis. I certainly would rank it as the most beatiful Catholic church in town from the outside (the inside is nice but could use some restoration, or at least could the last time I was in there ~5 years ago). Unfortunately, churches have had a significant role in the post WWII demise of beauty in “ordinary” buildings and houses.

  • St. Joan of Arc really does look straight out of Italy. There are some amazing Catholic churches in Indy.

I really wanted to get a shot of the church at 44th and Carrollton. There is a killer stained-glass front to that one. Perhaps next time I have the camera and am biking down the Monon…

There’s also a church on Central that was built in the last 50 years. It looks like a warehouse. Sad.

  • Nice shots. I really like the church at 42nd and Central. Do you know the name of that one? Which one is St. Joan of Arc?

  • 42nd and Central is St. Joan of Arc. The interior of the church is nice, but I think I like St. Mary’s downtown a bit more…

  • Central has an amazing number of solid quality church buildings between Westfield Blvd. and 34th.

“Warehouse” could refer to either the former Shaarey Tefilla synagogue just south of Kessler, or the Ravenbrook church at 51st.

You made me homesick for the old neighborhood; I used to run or walk past most of the places you photographed. Thanks for the reminder, Kevin.

    And I miss Yats!

  • nice photos Kevin!! Yats is amazing!!! Thanks for joining us last week!!
